Five tips for cooking for one

Because cooking is difficult for a person like that? There are many television programs and Web sites devoted to all your favorite foods, foods at home should be able to cook. The problem is that every recipe that you can find any recipe that looks really good for 4-6 people or more! This is one of the most frustrating aspects of cooking for themselves.

Here are some tips for cooking much easier.

First, find out what you want. Eating and cooking for themselves to buy requires a bit 'of planning, therefore, you can get the most out of each item you are perishable. For example, it should be you do not mind buying one or two pounds of hamburger, because you know it can be frozen and used later. If you buy fruit and vegetables, you must use in about a week or ugly turn. Planning will save you time and money!

Second, know when you can cook. If you're like me when I get home afterfrom work, is the last, I want to do, to stay for more than a hot oven for one hour. Choose a moment or a day when you spend a few hours to prepare food for later in the week. Many people spend part of their week preparing meals and stick in the fridge so they can then be reheated. Again, this goes back to planning. Understand a time that works best for you and a couple of different words for another day of the week.

Third, use what youhave. If those bananas go bad in the pantry to make banana bread. Most dishes are versatile and can be used in different ways. the amount of food that you refuse to be creative. Minimize the cooking is not an exact science, is to experiment!

Fourth, well use the information on your local grocery store. I recently purchased a couple of things for the meat counter, because they were on sale. Do not be afraid to try something new, especially if you do not have a fortune, as you might spend in a restaurant.

, Fun! Have to cook for you can take a challenge, but it can be fun. Do not worry if things do not go back, as expected. Learn from your mistakes and try again. With a little 'planning and a little' patience, anyone can be a cook for!

Great for people with little to no cooking experience - K. Basch - Houston, TX
I love to cook but was getting stale with ideas for different items - variety is the spice of life & I need more of it! My boyfriend & I are also pescetarians, which means that we eat fish, & also means that I am not a person who strictly cooks veggies on a regular basis. I am not a gourmet chef with an arsenal of recipes. We wanted some more ideas.

The Pros:
1)This book did provide some new ideas. The biggest hit so far has been stuffed poblanos; my boyfriend & I went nuts over them, but I altered the recipe significantly. The recipe became more of a recommendation to us.
2)The recipes are all pretty easy to follow.
3)There is a lot of variety, including desserts & breads.
4) I love the baked goods section. It is the most frequently-used part of this book. Nice to have recipes for quick low-fat breads.
4)All recipes are coded for easy reference as to what type of vegetarian they are suited towards (octo, lavo, etc).

The Cons:
1)This book is for people with little to no cooking experience. The recipes are mostly very basic, or versions of things you're already making. If you already know how to cook, you will find yourself making alterations to these recipes.
2)I was disappointed that many of the recipes are things that most people already know how to cook, and utilize store-bought sauces & frozen. Examples would be roasted veggies (too simple!) and spaghetti & meatballs that use frozen meatless balls. I know how to warm up pre-cooked foods. I was hoping for more actual recipes. I realize that this may be considered a "Pro" by some people who prefer to assemble, as opposed to cook, or are trying to save time. Another example would be gorp. Trail mix is not a recipe to me. I can shake up almonds & raisins on my own.
3) There are many errors in the recipes. Some instructions that reference ingredients not listed, some ingredients that do not have quantities/amounts listed. When I notice this in a recipe, I do not attempt to make it. I'm wondering how many people had recipes turn out funky, becuase they may not have noticed the small details missing, or didn't have enough cooking experience to notice that something was amiss.
4) The index is absolutely horrible. Incorrect page numbers listed for some recipes, & poorly organized. If you're looking for a recipe you know is in the book by using the index, good luck. Recipes are not listed by the category that common sense dictates they should be listed under...for example by ingredient, or recipe name. I've never seen an index like it. I know this sounds harsh, but I seriously wondered if anyone edited this book before it was published.

The Bottom Line:
Good book if you have no experience, or want ideas for cooking new things. If you are a seasoned cook expecting exciting new vegetarian recipes, you will most likely be nonplussed & disappointed by this book.

Absolutely Amazing - M. Hollander - Charlottesville, VA United States
This book is fantastic. We bought it on a recommendation from a friend about two years ago and it quickly became the go-to cookbook in our collection. The recipes are almost all delicious and none are too time consuming. That this became the go-to book for us is fairly amazing in and of itself in that we have 5 Moosewoods, the Joy of Cooking, a Williams Sonoma Veg cookbook (which is also great), and various other excellent books. Yet night after night, we come back to this book.

The organization by season is excellent if you are interested in trying to eat by what is in season.

Straight from the British Isles? - Jennylyn J. Farley - Yucaipa, CA United States
The Vegetarian Recipe book is written using terms and foods attainable from a country other than the US. The recipes include flour made by a company I have never heard of before this book. I may attempt to translate some of the recipes to be suitable for ingredients I have accessible here. It will be a challenge to try, but I am disappointed that I can't start cooking delicious dishes right away.

My Go-To Veggie Cookbook - Stormee - Seattle
I subscribed to Vegetarian Times magazine specifically because of this cookbook. I am not a vegetarian (yet), but this sets me on the path to a healthier, meat free diet. I try to make vegetarian meals at least 3-4 times a week. Some recipes are not always fast and easy, but nice variety overall. Good beginner's veggie cookbook - nothing too complicated.
